About The Position

St. Francis of Assisi School, a Pre-K through 8 parochial school in Baltimore, Maryland, established in 1955 and serving approximately 230 students, is seeking a Part-Time Student Support Specialist. This role will support the school's mission by planning, guiding, and evaluating the academic learning process while developing programs that enhance students' social and emotional learning. The Specialist will report to the Principal and be a member of the administrative leadership team, contributing to the creation of faith-filled, stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate programs. The ideal candidate will be creative, professional, dependable, warm, kind, and a team player, fostering cognitive, social, and emotional growth for academic success and positive interaction.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Guidance and Counseling or Administration preferred.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited educational institution preferred.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred.
  • Successful experience as a teacher or counselor preferred.
  • Proficient in educational testing and measurement practices, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Act as an advocate for students, supporting the development of the whole child.
  • Observe students in the classroom, assess needs, and work with them individually to develop coping mechanisms for academic success.
  • Bring a collaborative, data-driven, solutions-oriented attitude to the administrative team.
  • Support students in mentally processing challenges and/or adjustments to school through goal setting and action planning.
  • Communicate with parents to help them understand and constructively participate in their child's progress.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive, school-wide prevention needs programming.
  • Consult with school personnel to share information and establish roles regarding student needs beyond general academics.
  • Assist in the confidential and accurate recording and maintenance of student records.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports on students referred for evaluation.
  • Participate in the Student Advocacy Team to address student learning concerns and ensure effective accommodations for students with special needs.
  • Participate in workshops and training for professional growth.
  • Identify students at risk.
  • Obtain training in crisis intervention skills.
  • Assist students with special needs according to AoB guidelines.
  • Assist teachers with problem-solving interventions.
  • Recognize indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate steps.
  • Serve as an advocate for students.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards as outlined by the Archdiocese Code of Conduct, and follow all school and Archdiocesan policies.
  • Stay updated on student/school legal issues and procedures.
  • Maintain positive relationships and communicate effectively with staff and vendors.
  • Keep the Principal informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate support for the school and its goals and priorities.
