About The Position

Inuuqatigiit Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families is a multi-service non-profit organization dedicated to providing cultural, educational, and support services to Inuit children, youth, and their families. The organization aims to foster strong and proud Inuit children and families in a caring, respectful, and collaborative environment. The Student Support Services Worker (SSSW) will report to the BTG Program Supervisor, under the supervision of the Manager of Education. This role involves developing trusting relationships with students, parents, and community partners, and providing social-emotional well-being and case management support. The SSSW will also support community members within schools and the broader community, sharing relevant cultural information. A key responsibility is developing and implementing student success plans for both elementary and secondary students.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years related experience with youth
  • Experience working with Inuit and Aboriginal communities
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate computer systems and relevant software.
  • Ability to function effectively in a high stress, high noise environment
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and dedication and commitment to children

Nice To Haves

  • Post secondary education in related field
  • Case management experience
  • Fluency in Inuktitut
  • Knowledge of the needs of Inuit children and families.
  • Knowledge of Inuit and non-Inuit community services and supports.
  • Strong organizational, program planning, evaluation, fiscal management and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver all aspects of BTG programming, including individual supports, referrals, and group activities.
  • Develop the Student Success Plan as required by the funder based on participant needs.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a full range of programs/services as identified in the Student Success Plan.
  • Deliver safe and culturally appropriate BTG activities to youth and the community, guiding participants through all activities, including unstructured time.
  • Identify and report concerns and issues related to the delivery of BTG programs and services to the Supervisor and Manager of Education.
  • Resolve issues that arise in the delivery of BTG programming.
  • Monitor youth participants’ safety and well-being during all activities, including safe environment, equipment maintenance, staff/youth ratios, head counts, and safety policies.
  • Report any accidents/incidents to the Manager of Education immediately.
  • Identify and coordinate culturally appropriate occasional staff, guest speakers, Elders, and resource people for the program.
  • Oversee a caseload of 20-25 clients throughout the school year.
  • Plan and purchase supplies for programs and activities, including food.
  • Monitor and model positive group management strategies to maintain participant safety and engagement in the program.
  • Work closely with the Transportation Company to provide safe and appropriate transportation services to participants.
  • Build meaningful relationships with Inuit youth through consistent, responsive, and well-planned engagement.
  • Provide one-on-one support and facilitate regular group programming that strengthens connections to culture and community.
  • Deliver emotional support to children and youth, including crisis intervention and conflict resolution when required.
  • Collaborate with government staff and caregivers to develop and implement individualized safety plans.
  • Coordinate access to cultural resources, including Elders and knowledge keepers, to promote cultural identity and learning.
  • Contribute as an active team member to program development, planning, and facilitation.
