About The Position

Founded in 2001, LEARN is a nationally recognized non-profit network of PreK-8th grade elementary charter schools that is creating measurable, transformational change in the lives of its students. We currently educate 4,400 scholars across 11 campuses, most of which are in Chicago, IL. LEARN also serves families in Waukegan and North Chicago, IL, including children of service members stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Academy and Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling (JBAB) in Washington, D.C. LEARN provides a rigorous college-prep education grounded in an understanding of each student’s individual learning style and academic needs. The Student Services Coordinator ensures high‑quality implementation of Special Education, English Learner, MTSS, SEL, and 504 services while maintaining full compliance with Network, District, and State requirements and timelines. This role partners with school leadership and student support teams to drive sustainable systems, strong student outcomes, accurate documentation, and effective programming for all learners.

Requirements

  • Possess an active Illinois Professional Education License (PEL) with at least one of the following endorsements: LBS1, SSW, School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, Director of Special Education, Principal or General Administrative
  • Have at least two years’ experience in the field of special education and must be knowledgeable about compliance requirements, development and implementation of IEPs in both general and special education settings, interpreting results of assessments and implementing behavior modification plans
  • Proven leadership experience yielding evidence of demonstrable outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage, sustain visibility, and travel to multiple campuses (generally 2-3 campuses)

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the area of universal, individual and group interventions and develops plans to address the social/emotional needs of our students.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge and experience in the implementation of MTSS processes and practices supporting academic and social emotional growth.
  • Provide guidance to school teams relative to significant behavioral or social emotional issues.
  • Oversees provision of related services and their support to our scholars.
  • Possesses, acquires, and applies knowledge regarding legislation, compliance, and best practices to maintain 100% compliance rates and supports student academic and SEL growth.
  • Ensure all systems, processes, and documentation meet compliance requirements and timelines.
  • Oversee IEP, EL, MTSS, and 504 screening, referral, evaluation, and plan‑development processes.
  • Monitor fidelity of plan implementation and use progress‑monitoring data to support accurate, responsive student plans.
  • Maintain required records, master files, and reports in alignment with District and Network expectations.
  • Ensure student and teacher schedules align with service requirements.
  • Attend and facilitate required meetings; maintain an annual calendar of compliance milestones.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and feedback to the Special Education teams and related service providers.
  • Deliver professional development and support implementation of research‑based practices.
  • Build strong relationships with staff and families; respond to questions and concerns.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with school leadership, the SCM, and the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Ensure continued compliance with Illinois State Law and District regulations

  • Identifies and delivers professional development based on the identified needs at campus sites.
  • Leads and assists with the development and implementation of a student SEL and MTSS framework to address social/emotional/academic needs of our students.
  • Implements, maintains and assists staff with School Based Problem Solving, development of adult SEL competencies, and other positive behavioral management systems.
  • Ensures services to students with unique needs as identified in BIPs, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and EL plans in conjunction with staff.
  • ensure all compliance requirements are met
  • ensures plans/goals are written based on relevant data, services are implemented with fidelity, and progress is monitored frequently to ensure student growth
  • An essential team member of the Network Leadership team; contributes to the overall success of the team and the areas the team oversees on campuses; collaboratively supports and contributes to the vision, direction, and policies to support student growth and meet compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, the Network, and the local authorizer (District, State)
