About The Position

The Manchester School District is hiring for Licensed Practical Nurses for the ESY Summer School program. This role provides care to medically complex students in the school environment through the utilization of assessment, fulfillment, planning, intervention, evaluation management, and referral activities. This role facilitates the promotion and maintenance of health, as well as the prevention of illness and injury for the student, providing care to students directly and indirectly in compliance with school district policies, Nursing Standards of Practice, and Individual Health Plans.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing or completion of a Board approved training program, based on level of licensure.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice in the State of New Hampshire.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Valid NH Driver’s License
  • Substantial knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and municipal laws, regulations, and policies related to nursing and licensee’s Scope of Practice
  • Minimum of one to two years’ experience in pediatric nursing child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing settings.
  • Ability to maintain safety and provide care to medically complex students, including but not limited to assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), frequent monitoring and assessments of a student’s condition, medication administration, simple and complex medical procedures, and providing emergency care.
  • Skill in the use and operation of medical apparatus, equipment, and screening instruments.
  • Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and technology.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with school staff, parents, outside healthcare professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Must be able to complete the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience working with medically complex children preferred.
  • Multilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Routine and/or constant monitoring and assessment of students’ health status and safety, per individual Scope of Practice.
  • Medication administration, including the proper safe storage and management of medications, and treatments as prescribed, per individual Scope of Practice.
  • Performs complex medical procedures consistent with individualized health care plans as dictated by medical orders per individual Scope of Practice.
  • Assists with other therapies as directed under the instruction of licensed therapists.
  • Attends all classes with students, including snack time, lunch and recess, continuously monitoring their health status and safety.
  • Attends school-sponsored field trips as needed or assigned.
  • Rides the bus with students, before and after school, as needed.
  • In conjunction with the School Nurse, assists with the formulation, revision, and/or implementation of the Individual Health Plan, per individual Scope of Practice.
  • Assists the School Nurse and other staff as requested, per Scope of Practice.
  • In conjunction with the School Nurse, maintains and provides accurate health records of students to the district, state or other appropriate agencies, including Medicaid.
  • In conjunction with the School Nurse, assist in the School Health Office, including the administration of medications, assessments, treatments, and screenings, per individual Scope of Practice.
  • RNs and LPNs only: Maintain the School Health Office in absence of the School Nurse.
  • In conjunction with the teacher/case manager, assists to increase student self-awareness and self-management skills of medical conditions at a developmentally appropriate level.
  • Assures all care provided is done within the Scope of Practice for the level of nursing license held.
  • Follows Manchester School District’s Nursing Staff Expectations, as amended.
  • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the position.
