About The Position

The Student Support Lab Instructor supports student retention, engagement, and academic achievement throughout the student lifecycle while providing instructional and skills-based support within the laboratory environment. This role serves as a key resource for students by identifying and addressing barriers to success, monitoring academic progress, conducting proactive outreach, and reinforcing hands-on clinical and laboratory competencies. The ideal candidate demonstrates experience in student coaching, advising, training, instruction, or skills development; the ability to work independently while maintaining compliance with institutional policies and procedures; proficiency with student information systems, learning management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and related educational technologies; and strong communication skills with a commitment to professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Associate degree or higher in Medical Assistant or related field. Will consider medical assistant diploma upon experience and competencies.
  • At least three years of prior practical work experience as Medical Clinical Assistant or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • National certification as a Medical Assistant-such as through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Welcome Calls and Student Success Plan Calls to establish student goals and develop strategies for overcoming obstacles to completion.
  • Partner with Admissions to prepare students for their first day and promote student readiness.
  • Maintain proactive communication with students throughout their educational journey through phone, email, virtual, or in-person interactions.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement, and academic progress, providing intervention and support to at-risk students.
  • Support retention initiatives through outreach during key milestones and periods of increased risk.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and staff to facilitate communication and resolve concerns.
  • Facilitate and support lab activities, assignments, and learning experiences in accordance with program curriculum.
  • Instruct, guide, and coach students in the lab learning environment.
  • Demonstrate procedures, processes, and proper equipment usage as required by the curriculum.
  • Evaluate student skill development, provide constructive feedback, and maintain appropriate assessment records.
  • Tutor and mentor students who require additional assistance with lab skills or course concepts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student competencies, skill checklists, and progress.
  • Foster a professional, safe, and supportive learning environment that promotes student confidence and success.
  • Verify student identity and ensure compliance with FERPA and institutional policies.
  • Maintain accurate student records, reports, and required documentation
  • Compile retention, academic progress, and student success reports, as assigned.
  • Ensure timely documentation of student interactions, interventions, and academic support activities
  • Support first-contact resolution and efficient student service.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Academic Affairs, faculty, and campus staff to support student persistence, academic success, program completion, and positive educational outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Affairs team to address academic and retention-related concerns.
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, and institutional meetings to support student success initiatives and operational effectiveness.
  • Contribute feedback regarding curriculum effectiveness, student performance, and student success strategies.
  • Assist with implementation of academic interventions and student success initiatives that support institutional goals.
  • Develop a professional development (self-development and professional growth) plan.
  • Provide documentation that demonstrates the professional development plan has been executed.
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in professional development and compliance training activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
