About The Position

Under the direction of the Workforce Development Department and the leadership of the Academic and Instruction Coordinator, the Student Success Instructor is responsible for facilitating standards-aligned Math and Reading instruction that builds foundational skills and prepares adult-learners for academic success. The Student Success Instructor combines Reading and Math remediation with creative and robust instruction to support new and returning Excel Center students as they transition back to school. Additional duties may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (required).
  • Prior experience in remediation, academic intervention and expectational learning models.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in education, workforce development, human resources, or a related field.
  • Data tracking, monitoring and reporting capabilities.
  • Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Office products, browsers, database mining and management
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, written and verbal); mature interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Project management skills, ability to handle multiple assignments, projects, and priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Active or eligible to obtain an active Tennessee teaching license (recommended).
  • Bilingual language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Re-engages students' academic journey, fostering self-confidence and assurance that the program is tailored to meet the unique needs of adult learners.
  • Develops and delivers engaging, standards-aligned Math and Reading instruction that builds foundational skills and prepares students for program success.
  • Tracks and analyze pre- and post-diagnostic assessment data, including scores and performance trends, to monitor student progress and inform instructional planning and targeted interventions.
  • Assists and supports the organization and facilitation of Barrier Buster, CCR events (which include but are not limited to certification enrollment, college signing, college fairs, tours, scholarships, etc. to current students, teachers, and alumni).
  • Maintain relationships and gather program feedback to support ongoing program initiatives.
  • Identify new sources of remediation, employability and occupational skills related opportunities.
  • Supports with the monitoring and tracking of student performance and placement opportunities for reporting purposes.
  • Attends and participates in school events, tours, workshops, conferences, professional development and meetings.
  • Support and presenter of New Student Orientation (as needed).
  • Additional responsibilities assigned by Department Leader.
