The primary responsibility of the Student Success Director, (Program Director) is to provide strategic leadership and execution student success initiatives within the Morrison Family College of Health. The Student Success Director will collaborate with students, faculty and staff to develop services and programs designed to enhance student success and improve student retention. The position is responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of graduate student affairs programming within the MFCOH, serving as a strategic partner and liaison to undergraduate Student Affairs, the broader campus such as Academic Affairs for advising, and community resources to build partnerships and provide opportunities for all students, and carrying out special student success initiatives with different areas of emphasis. The Student Success Director will demonstrate a commitment to the vision and mission of St. Thomas and the Morrison Family College of Health by providing support opportunities that are culturally responsive, demonstrate ingenuity, and holistically support students to advance health equity and social justice.

Requirements

Master’s degree in a relevant field
Five years of professional level experience in program administration
Must have experience in student services working with diverse populations and experience implementing and managing large, complex projects

Responsibilities

Develops, implements, evaluates, and continuously improves success and retention in collaboration with the faculty, staff, and MFCOH Dean’s office. With an emphasis on Graduate student support, these programs will meet the needs of students and may include (but are not limited to) academic support, belonging programming, and community building activities. This includes the training and supervision of the MFCOH graduate Writing Center team, affinity and belonging programming such as the graduate BIPOC community group, providing support for advising for growth areas such as nursing, among other initiatives.
Provide student advising and support for students and faculty. In collaboration with faculty advisors, provide individual support for students needing assistance with system navigation, academic coaching, or case management support. May carry an undergraduate advising load to support faculty staffing changes and/or respond to individual students with unique situations or needs. In collaboration with MFCOH programs, provide virtual and in-person workshops to enhance student success such as academic skills or program application preparation. Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve advising models, including providing targeted support for students with special needs, and meeting with families within FERPA guidelines.
Develop and execute college events that foster student engagement, support student success and belonging and create affinity for the MFCOH mission and vision. This includes programs such as (but not limited to) orientation programs, graduate student convocation, and celebrations surrounding graduation and other milestones.
Provides faculty and staff education and development in best practices for student success and retention, including the purposes, processes, and procedures for implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving success and retention systems.
Oversee the administration of funds designated to support student success, including college emergency funds and designated scholarships. Provide reports on usage as defined by Operating procedures, or as requested by College leadership. Responsible for sharing and keeping track of college specific data about student success. Collaborate with programs, committees and college leadership to assess effectiveness of successful programs and monitor student needs through data analysis.
Represents the MFCOH and the Dean’s Leadership Team on college committees, the St. Thomas Retention and Student Success committee and university, local, regional, state, and national events as they relate to the advancement of the success and mission of the MFCOH. Develop relationships with campus partners to develop and share resources. Promote and market MFCOH initiatives and other relevant resources through communication tools such as the Morrison Memo and in partnership with the College marketing team. Prioritize opportunities to promote the college mission and vision as related to student success and promotion of equity.
