About The Position

Charles R. Drew University (CDU) is seeking a Student Success and Wellness Coordinator to plan and coordinate student activities for the College of Nursing (CON). This role involves coordinating budgeting, student outreach, developing an event calendar, and implementing programs aligned with the university's vision and mission. The coordinator will create program materials, establish staffing requirements, measure program performance, and utilize CRM systems for outreach. They will also work with partners on special events to promote CON and its programs within the community. The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of CON Student Affairs, identifying and assessing student needs, building relationships with students, managing appointment calendars, scheduling meetings, and providing support services. This includes handling student complaints, providing accurate information, organizing meetings, developing correspondence, maintaining student records confidentially, and maintaining office equipment. The role also involves participating in various university events and collaborating with the Student Success and Wellness Director to streamline the admissions process and coordinate interview logistics for CON programs. Some weekend work may be required, and driving a personal vehicle for supplies might be necessary.

Requirements

  • Regionally accredited bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to three years’ related experience with student services and activities.
  • CA driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, implement, and schedule various programs and events.
  • Proven customer support experience or experience as a student affairs professional.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and student information systems.
  • Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of customers.
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with students.
  • Strong listening skills.
  • Ability to take the extra mile to engage students.
  • Excellent writing skills (e.g., technical reports, correspondence).
  • Excellent grammatical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and Canva.
  • Ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Frequent variety of unrelated tasks, constant calculating, interrupted work, a variety of interrelated tasks, and use of sustained concentration, reasoning, judgment, resourcefulness, analytical ability, and ingenuity.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates student activities for the College of Nursing (CON).
  • Coordinates budgeting and student outreach efforts.
  • Develops an event calendar and implements programs that align with the university’s vision, mission, and goals.
  • Creates program materials, establishes staffing requirements, and ensures that the program achieves stated objectives.
  • Measures the performance of programs and adjusts to optimize results.
  • Utilizes client relationship management (CRM) or another system to organize information and facilitate outreach communications.
  • Works with partners on special events that publicize CON and its programs to the community.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Office of CON Student Affairs.
  • Identifies and assesses student needs to achieve program goals.
  • Builds sustainable relationships and trust with students through open and interactive communication.
  • Maintains appointment calendar(s).
  • Schedules meetings and arranges facilities, equipment, and related support.
  • Provides support services such as typing, distribution, and report preparation for special projects.
  • Handles student complaints, provides appropriate solutions and alternatives within the time limits, and follows up to ensure resolution.
  • Follows communication procedures, guidelines, and policies.
  • Organizes meetings including sending emails and reminders, distributing materials, arranging for refreshments, assigning name tags, and recording/transcribing minutes.
  • Develops correspondence, memoranda, special reports, and related material for CON Student Affairs.
  • Maintains student records confidentially to ensure students’ privacy.
  • Maintains program files and office equipment.
  • Participates in activities including orientations, white coat ceremonies, and graduation events for the ELM, FNP, DNP, and BSN programs.
  • Collaborates with the Student Success and Wellness Director to streamline the admissions process for CON Student Affairs.
  • Coordinates the logistics and arranges interviews for CON programs’ applicants.
  • Provides CON applicants with their application status.
  • Assigns and schedules work activities for student employees.
