About The Position

The Student Success and Retention Coordinator works under the Director’s general direction to plan and implement undergraduate career and retention programming for students. The Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of American Indian Student Support Services (AISSS) plans to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with established program priorities. The Coordinator works with undergraduates, graduates, and professional students to achieve high academic and personal growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in effectively and cooperatively working with a range of people including students, staff, faculty, and American Indian Nations/Tribes particularly in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues in higher education, retention practices, student development theory/practices, learning techniques, advising services, counseling, conflict management, crisis intervention services to assist students seeking a resolution to academic or personal challenges
  • Demonstrated knowledge of university policies/procedures and services/resources
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of administrative skills, advanced work practices, and leadership qualities in working with first-year and sophomore students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital technologies to support the success of online and immersion students
  • Experience in stimulating positive changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment
  • Experience in working with student populations
  • Experience in problem-solving and critical thinking for decision making
  • Experience in multitasking, working collaboratively with others, designing/presenting materials to an audience.
  • Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to tight deadlines, and ability to handle potentially conflicting priorities
  • Experience in prioritizing work activities
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the office and the university community
  • Experience in using Microsoft applications, Zoom, Google Suite, Peoplesoft, Dashboards, Salesforce Case Management Advising Portal, Zoom, Bookings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct student services and coordinates the AISSS center
  • Coordinates the development/implementation of events, activities/workshops, and assists with seminars, meetings, conferences, convocation, and culturally relevant programs
  • Responds to student questions and works closely with students to resolve issues and/or concerns to ensure ongoing satisfaction with tools and resources available through the AISSS website; and provide guidance in the selection of options best suited to individual goals, interests, and skills in identifying various career options
  • Tracks student academic progress, confers with students, identifies problem areas, problem solves with students, provides guidance, provides technical advice, answers questions, interprets university policies, and refers unresolved issues to appropriate department/program
  • Assists with plans and logistics for welcome events, workshops, presentations, celebration ceremonies, recognition events
  • Initiates develop and sustains positive relations with colleges/departments/programs and student organizations to ensure a coordinated approach to student outreach, recruitment, retention activities, networking, opportunity sharing, and to seek resources while ensuring student success efforts
  • Maintains student records on the database; assists to compile and analyze data including enrollment, academic progress/performance, program activities, program service usage by students, and relevant information
  • Assists to evaluate program effectiveness, implementing improved methods, and recommending new or revised program goals and objectives
  • Works with Administrative Associate on AISSS office functions, transactions, and relevant activities
  • Provides personalized, proactive, and collaborative student support using technologies such as Salesforce Portal
  • Provides periodic reports or special reports for management or outside agencies
  • Collaborates with other campus entities to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications
  • Participates in staff meetings, events, conferences, and special projects as assigned
  • Travel to other ASU AISSS Centers to attend meetings, events, and workshops as necessary and also work as a backup for other AISSS Student Success and Retention Coordinators as needed
  • The position will work proactively with online students as well as immersion students at, but not limited to, West Valley campus
  • Assist with AISSS social media to create engaging AISSS content and presence including keeping social media updated and brand-focused
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor
