About The Position

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at Iowa State University is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Student Services Specialist II. The Student Services Specialist II plays a key role in supporting the academic experience of undergraduate chemical (CHE) and biomedical (BME) engineering students, as well as the accreditation and continuous improvement processes of the department.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
2 years of related experience
Effective management and organizational skills
Ability to communicate effectively
Abide by all departmental policies and procedures, rules and advising expectations outlined by Iowa State University, and FERPA guidelines with respect for the professional, confidential nature of advising undergraduate students.
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Experience coordinating student programs, such as learning communities
Experience with Workday Student
Experience advising postsecondary or high school students
Experience organizing data and preparing charts in Microsoft Excel

Responsibilities

Supporting CHE and BME undergraduate student advising for orientation, registration, and graduation appointments
Coordinating the first-year CHE student learning community, including supervising peer mentors
Supporting the CHE program accreditation and continuous improvement processes
Advising CHE and BME undergraduate students regarding degree planning, graduation requirements, academic support services, and academic policies
Referring CHE and BME students to appropriate resources for academic success, counseling, financial aid, career services, study abroad
