About The Position

We are seeking a collaborative and student-centered Student Services Manager to lead ASU 101-LA, a foundational, one-credit student success course designed to support first-year online students in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (The College). Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student and Academic Programs in The College, this role provides academic instruction, guidance, and coordinated support to help students successfully transition to university learning. The student services manager is responsible for overseeing course design, instruction, and continuous improvement, while fostering a sense of belonging and connection for online learners. This position plays a central role in advancing The College’s goals related to student engagement, retention, and success by ensuring a cohesive instructional experience across all ASU 101-LA sections and coordinating proactive outreach and early support interventions in partnership with faculty, advisors, peer learning assistants, and student success teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience using ASU systems or comparable platforms such as PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and analytics dashboards.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in higher education, student affairs, counseling, instructional design, or a related academic discipline.
  • 3–6 years of experience working with first-year or online student populations in higher education settings.
  • Strong understanding of online pedagogy, learning management systems (Canvas preferred), and data-informed approaches to student outreach and support.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and facilitate all ASU 101-LA course sections for first-year online students, creating a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Design and deliver course content that supports students’ academic transition, personal development, and connection to The College and the university.
  • Collaborate with The College’s faculty oversight team and paired-course instructors to support integrated and meaningful first-year learning experiences.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor Peer Learning Assistants (LA’s), including onboarding, coaching, scheduling, and performance feedback.
  • Implement early engagement and retention strategies, such as pre-course outreach, first-week participation monitoring, and ongoing progress check-ins.
  • Conduct proactive, personalized outreach to students experiencing disengagement or non-attendance, and coordinate timely interventions with Success Coaches, LA’s, and academic advising partners.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report student engagement, completion, and retention data to inform course refinement and student support strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student outreach, interventions, and outcomes using ASU systems and reporting tools.
  • Serve as a connector among academic departments, advising teams, and student success units to align resources and support services for ASU Online students.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and assessment of ASU 101-LA curriculum, training materials, and community-building activities.
  • Represent The College on committees or initiatives related to online learning, first-year experience programs, and student success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of student success, engagement, and retention efforts within The College.
