About The Position

Join Grand Canyon Education as a Student Services Counselor to help Grand Canyon University students succeed. This role involves advising current and prospective online students on degree program requirements, course selection, and finance counseling. The starting salary is $43,000 per year, with potential to reach $70,000 after several years of service. Grand Canyon Education provides a generous benefits package, including tuition-free education for employees up to the Master's degree level and 75% coverage at the Doctorate level, with similar benefits for family members. This is a remote role based in Phoenix, AZ, with the potential to transition to a hybrid schedule, requiring 2 days per week in the office and occasional in-person attendance for meetings or training. New hire training includes three weeks: one in-person in Phoenix, AZ, and two virtual via Zoom. The next training start date is 11/2/2026.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • No delinquent or in default on a federal student loan as verified in your credit report. If in a rehabilitation program, your credit report must reflect that you are current, not delinquent, on your payments.
  • Outstanding customer service, organization and time management skills.
  • Good customer service, time management, excellent planning, organizational, multi-tasking, case-management and follow up skills to meet required timelines.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Superior customer service skills along with the ability to represent the GCE/GCU brand in a highly professional manner coupled with well-developed listening skills.
  • Self-motivation and drive to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently counseling continuing students regarding University policy and procedures, payment options (focused on responsible borrowing), and ensuring progress throughout their program.
  • Financially clearing students, which will incorporate funding strategies including collecting any required paperwork, documents for progression requirements, and selected payment options (including financial aid reapplication).
  • Working in a fast-paced environment while working cross-functionally with admissions staff and other departments.
  • Using passion for serving others to provide exceptional counseling to prospective students via phone or email, championing the GCE mission, promoting Grand Canyon University student success and institutional growth.
  • Serving as a student advocate while navigating through University policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring all related matters to academic compliance are resolved prior to each students’ course start date, incorporating intervention strategies, as needed, to help keep students in attendance and progressing toward their scheduled graduation date.
  • Exhibiting excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Working in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment with constant phone and email contact with students daily.
  • Counseling cohort site students regarding University policy and procedures, registration, progression requirements (focused on graduation date expedition) and payment options (focused on responsible borrowing).
  • Providing assistance to continuing students regarding policies and procedures and ensuring students’ progress through programmatic milestones.
  • Maintaining acceptable metrics on End of Course Surveys which measure customer service responses for Student Services Advisor role.
  • Monitoring course classroom load for assigned cohort site and collaboratively working with Cohort Director, CONHCP and other College designates as classroom utilizing builds and OAR to maximize classroom site resources.
