About The Position

The Student Services Advisor (Online) is responsible for maintaining the primary relationship between the student and the school. They are responsible for both retention and effective engagement, and for assisting the student as the single point of contact until successful completion of the academic program. The Student Services Advisor (Online) develops deep expertise in the management of student populations through various academic programs, including Healthcare, Business, Information Technology, and Education with an emphasis on proactive Orientation, Standard and Intervention advisement strategies.

Requirements

• BACHELOR’S DEGREE FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY, PREFERRED IN A RELATED FIELD SUCH AS EDUCATION, SOCIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY OR SOCIAL WORK
• DEMONSTRATES KNOWLEDGE OF CURRENT INSTRUCTIONAL AND ASSESSMENT MODELS, METHODOLOGIES AND SOFTWARE
• ANALYZES PROBLEMS, IDENTIFIES ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS, PROJECTS CONSEQUENCES OF PROPOSED ACTIONS, RECOMMENDS BEST OPTIONS AND IMPLEMENTS APPROVED SOLUTION(S) IN SUPPORT OF CORPORATE GOALS
• WORKS INDEPENDENTLY IN THE ABSENCE OF SUPERVISION
• USES INITIATIVE AND INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT WITHIN ESTABLISHED GUIDELINES
• COMMUNICATES CLEARLY AND CONCISELY, BOTH ORALLY AND IN WRITING
• ESTABLISHES AND MAINTAINS EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ALL CLIENTS CONTACTED IN THE COURSE OF WORK

• PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN ONLINE/VIRTUAL LEARNING AS A STUDENT TEACHER OR ACADEMIC ADVISOR
• 2+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN ONLINE/VIRTUAL CUSTOMER SERVICE, ACADEMIC ADVISING, STUDENT SERVICES AND/OR HIGH-RISK ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT

Responsibilities

• Serves as the Primary Relationship Owner Between the Student and the School: Acts as the liaison between the students and the school related to academic success, academic progression, retention and post-graduation planning. Promotes success by advising toward appropriate skills for success in online and virtual learning. Provides accurate information on school policies, procedures and best practices. Coordinates resources and effectively advises based on individual student academic and personal/social needs. Proactively communicates with and advises students who have academic or attendance problems to ensure resolution toward corrective action. Maintains high levels of student satisfaction as measured by student engagement, student retention, student academic progress, student satisfaction surveys, student graduation rates and graduation surveys. Ensures that all student service activities are in compliance with department and organizational policies and procedures.
• Monitors and Influences Student Progress: Creates effective academic planning activities leading to successful completion of the chosen program of study by the scheduled graduation date. Contacts students through written and verbal communications to advise students regarding academic status necessary for program progress and on-time graduation. Provides graduation candidacy related information to appropriate campus personnel as requested. Audits student schedules for candidacy for graduation, as determined by the college policy, to ensure timely progress towards graduation.
• Drives Efforts to Retain Students: Plays the lead role in managing student retention to increase newly-enrolled and continuing populations through student data analysis and high-touch outreach. Contributes to the development of company best practices to continuously improve proactive student engagement. Advises students, along with the Financial Aid Dept., of the impact of enrollment status changes in regards to financial options and obligations. Develops and maintains remediation plans related to satisfactory academic progress where appropriate. Directs retention activities for newly-enrolled, continuing and re-entry student cohorts through defined daily activities and attendance tracking analysis.
