About The Position

Colorado State University’s Center for the New Energy Economy (CNEE), founded in 2011, provides non-partisan technical assistance to facilitate America’s transition to a clean energy economy. CNEE is seeking paid student research interns to join their team. This internship offers students interested in clean energy policy a unique learning opportunity. Interns will collaborate closely with the Research Manager, CNEE staff, and fellow interns on various projects, including the Advanced Energy Legislation Tracker (AEL Tracker), the State Policy Opportunity Tracker for Clean Energy (SPOT for Clean Energy), and the Clean Energy Legislative Academy (CELA). The position can be worked from offices in Denver, CO, or remotely.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be willing and/or able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • Excellent research, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated policy, science, or technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under limited direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The department cannot sponsor a visa and requires U.S. work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to read, summarize, and synthesize energy policy-related technical reports, research articles, databases, and legislative and regulatory documents.
  • Working understanding of energy markets, energy and/or environmental policy, and state legislative procedures.
  • Interested in assisting CNEE staff promote CNEE’s work on social media outlets.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze energy legislation, manage data, create graphics, perform research, and write-up results to support the AEL Tracker, SPOT for Clean Energy, and other CNEE initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with CNEE team members to develop reports and presentations related to state-level energy legislation and policy.
  • Work on short-term research assignments for CNEE staff, which includes creating memoranda on current energy policy developments.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly team meetings.
