About The Position

The position involves working in a biology department lab with Dr. Amy Verhoeven on projects related to photosynthetic stress acclimation. Research questions include: how do evergreen plants cope with light during winter when it is too cold for photosynthesis? Are conifers able to acclimate to low light conditions?

Requirements

  • Student must be a biology or biochemistry major interested in gaining some laboratory research experience
  • Successful completion of coursework in biology and chemistry is required
  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student at St. Thomas
  • Must be actively enrolled at least part-time in courses for credit

Responsibilities

  • Pigment isolation and HPLC analysis of pigments
  • Thylakoid isolation electrophoresis and western blotting
  • Data analysis
