About The Position

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xiaolei Xu, Marriott Family Professor in Cardiovascular Research, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Program, Robert and Arlene Kogod Center on Aging at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. The successful applicant will join a dynamic research team that leverages the powerful genetics of zebrafish and the African turquoise killifish to model human cardiovascular diseases, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), and cardiac aging. Our research aims to uncover the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying these conditions and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies. A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants.

Requirements

  • Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program.
  • Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and strongly committed to basic biomedical research.
  • Completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
  • Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in molecular biology, genetics, and/or animal models of human disease.
  • Experience in cilia biology, cardiomyopathy, PKD, cellular senescence, and/or bioinformatics, particularly single-cell and spatial transcriptomics.
