About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager, Student Services, the Student Recruitment Supervisor administers student recruitment activities for programs offered by the Schulich School of Music. The incumbent provides information and guidance to prospective students regarding programs, admission requirements, and application procedures, and represents the School at virtual and in-person recruitment activities and events. The position supervises student ambassadors and supports the effective operation of recruitment and admissions-related activities.

Requirements

  • Proven organizational, communication, presentation and customer service skills in English and French.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with students, the public and all levels of staff.
  • Ability to promote McGill and Schulich School of Music programs, in person or through the use of virtual and social media platforms.
  • Proven leadership, initiative, determination and creativity in solving problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with demonstrated strong planning, organization, data-driven priority-setting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relation-building, and communication skills to interact positively and effectively on a professional level with internal and external parties.
  • Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.
  • Valid driver's license required; job entails some (overnight, multi-day) travel during Fall and recruitment periods.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a computerized environment, using a variety of software (including presentation software), the Internet and the unit’s web site applications, social media platforms, platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams, Webex; navigation in Workday, Banner SIS, Minerva and Slate.
  • Knowledge of French: Must be fluent in verbal communication, and advanced in written communication.
  • Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 (fluent) on a scale of 0-4, for both Verbal and written communications.

Responsibilities

  • Administer student recruitment activities through a combination of virtual and in-person outreach initiatives, including travel to educational institutions, recruitment fairs, conferences, and related events throughout Canada and the northeastern United States.
  • Represent the Schulich School of Music at recruitment events by delivering presentations and providing information to prospective students, parents, guidance counsellors, and other stakeholders regarding academic programs, admission requirements, financial assistance, student services, and career opportunities.
  • Act as a resource person for prospective students, applicants, guidance counsellors, and School staff by responding to complex inquiries related to admissions, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of recruitment communications and promotional materials, including print and digital content, in collaboration with School and University partners.
  • Administer recruitment event logistics and activities, including school visits, Open House, Meet McGill, Entrance Auditions, Orientation, campus tours, Student-for-a-Day activities, and other recruitment and yield events.
  • Prepare reports and maintains records related to recruitment activities, including visit reports, participation statistics, and budget information. Monitor recruitment expenditures and prepare budget submissions as required.
  • Participate in admission-related activities by reviewing applications for completeness, processing documentation, and ensuring adherence to established admission procedures and deadlines.
  • Supervise student ambassadors and other casual student employees, including recruitment, training, work assignment, scheduling, performance monitoring, and approval of timesheets in accordance with University policies and applicable collective agreements.
  • Participate in University recruitment initiatives and training activities and provide information regarding Schulich School of Music programs to university recruitment personnel and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the unit through participation in special projects and the performance of other related duties as assigned.
