About The Position

Performs diagnostic Imaging examinations, (X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI, OR Nuclear Medicine), under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging technologist. Essential Job Functions Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance. Collects pertinent data about the patient and procedure. Confirms patient's identification and verifies the physician' order. Reviews the patient's chart and/or the physician's order to determine the optimal imaging procedure for suspected pathology. Verifies the patient's pregnancy status when appropriate. Provide information to the patient about the procedure. Verifies the patient has consented to the procedure and answers any questions. Provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and at a level the patient can understand. Provides information to patient regarding preparations and any allergic reactions. Analyzes the information obtained during assessment phase and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis. Determines whether patient has been appropriately prepared for procedure. Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices. Administers contrast agents, (where applicable), according to established guidelines and under direct supervision of registered technologist. Obtains written consent prior to IV contrast administration. Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast agents. Determines appropriate type and dose of contrast agent to be administered. Monitors patient during exam for adverse reaction to contrast media. Obtains optimum images during exam/procedure. Selects appropriate imaging equipment and technique. Positions patient according to exam protocol. Utilizes imaging equipment to maximize image quality. Sends images to PACS for interpretation by radiologist. Documents information about patient care, exam, and patient history in appropriate record. Verifies/enters correct order in to RIS/HIS. Documents patient history in PACS system. Documents any exceptions from the established guidelines. Facilitates correspondence between departments to assure procedures are performed in a timely manner. Coordinates with Centralized Scheduling, nursing units, and ER to accommodate STAT and ASAP orders. Coordinates patient care with all Imaging departments. Maintains equipment and workstations in optimum condition. Performs daily QC on equipment where applicable. Assures adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained. Implements downtime procedures when necessary. Assists in coordinating rescheduling of patients during equipment downtime. Follows established downtime procedures during HIS/RIS downtime. Adheres to radiation and MRI safety policies and procedures where applicable. Attends radiation or MRI safety in-service or views video annually. Ensures adequate radiation safety to themselves, patients, and other personnel by following established policies and utilizing protection devices and equipment where applicable. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in and have completed one year of an accredited Diagnostic Imaging program.
  • Must be approved via competency prior to performing procedure.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI

  • HS Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
