About The Position

The Student Professional Worker Program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience while participants obtain their degree. We will help you to gain experience in building employment skills, establishing a professional network while continuing your education. This is temporary, part-time position, compensated on an hourly as-needed basis for up to 30 hours per week during instructional period.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program with specialization in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and successful completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when need to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Physical Class III – Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
  • Proof of Academic Specialty / Declared Major in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Acceptable documents include: Official or unofficial transcripts, or A verification letter from the school administration confirming your declared major or program of study.
  • Proof of Current Enrollment. Acceptable documents include: A current Class Schedule confirming registration for the current or upcoming semester/quarter, or A letter from the School Administration (on official letterhead) confirming enrollment status, or A student ID card with photograph indicating current enrollment (must display the current term).
  • Proof of Current Units Earned or Academic Status. Acceptable documents include: Official or unofficial transcripts, or A verification letter from your current school stating the units earned toward your academic status.
  • If hired, continued enrollment and attendance in school is required to maintain eligibility for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide-range of technical support duties including configuration of computers, printers, and installation of equipment and applications software, simple maintenance and repair of computers and printers, and identification and resolution of computer hardware and software problems.
  • Assist in preparing test data and test plans, system and program documentation, and in preparing and debugging detailed coding instructions.
  • Assist in monitoring, evaluating, and debugging network systems and coordinates with ITS regarding possible changes to improve operations and efficiency.
  • Assist in providing end user hardware and software support in a help desk environment.
  • Assist in the development of macros, web pages, and simple modifications to existing software applications.
  • Assist in writing computer programs and provides documentation to streamline information processing and program data analysis.
  • Assist IT staff in the development and dissemination of newsletters, graphics, charts, forms, or handouts during training sessions.
  • Assist in ad hoc report development.
  • Create, modify, or maintain simple applications/databases for data, such as training information, budget or departmental data as needed.
  • Provide basic training to department staff on technical topics, software products, and use of utilities as needed.
  • Participates in preparing detailed coding instructions or other higher-level computer programming languages as needed.
