About The Position

The Student Professional Worker Program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience while participants obtain their degree. This program helps participants gain experience in building employment skills, establishing a professional network, and continuing their education. This is a temporary, part-time position, compensated on an hourly as-needed basis for up to 30 hours per week during the instructional period.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an accredited graduate college or university program leading to a Masters or Doctorate Degree.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Proof of Academic Standing regarding academic level or class level (Official or unofficial transcripts, or a verification letter from the school administration confirming academic standing).
  • Proof of Current Enrollment (A current Class Schedule confirming registration for the current or upcoming semester/quarter, or a letter from the School Administration confirming enrollment status, or a student ID card with photograph indicating current enrollment).
  • Continued enrollment and attendance in school is required to maintain eligibility for the position if hired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist technical and professional staff by collecting, tabulating and/or analyzing statistics, conducting research, investigations and special studies in a variety of occupational categories or service areas.
  • Interview and consult with county employees, officials, and interested persons or groups on matters related to work assignments.
  • Prepare reports detailing study findings and develop recommendations.
  • Develop presentations and charts detailing analyses of information and data.
  • Depending on occupational assignment, may assist professional staff by preparing press and radio releases.
  • Make presentations to large groups and teach educational classes.
  • Interact with community based organizations to elicit their participation in departmental programs.
  • Conduct special studies in a variety of occupational fields.
  • Prepare maps, charts, photographs and other graphic presentations to illustrate a function within the department.
  • Perform social services assignments such as supervision and training of juvenile wards of the court.
  • Identify and catalog birds, mammals and fossils.
  • Process writs and judgments; file legal documents; document and enter results of legal actions.
