About The Position

Sun Parlor Home is located on a tranquil 23-acre forested property in Leamington, Ontario, and has proudly provided high-quality, resident-centred long-term care for more than 100 years. Our beautifully landscaped grounds include gardens, courtyards, walking paths, outdoor seating, and a gazebo—designed to support wellness, dignity, and purpose. As a not-for-profit, municipally owned long-term care home, Sun Parlor Home offers 206 licensed beds in private and semi-private rooms and serves the residents of Essex County with compassion, innovation, and respect. Our mission is “to be an inspirational home for all people within our changing community that is compassionate, innovative, and fosters purpose and dignity.” Reporting to the Director of Care, the Student Placement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, onboarding, orienting, and supporting student placements within the long-term care home in accordance with the Ministry of Health regulations, the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, and organizational policies and procedures. The Student Placement Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between the home and educational institutions, ensuring a positive and meaningful learning experience for students while supporting the development of future healthcare professionals. The role is responsible for maintaining partnerships with educational institutions, coordinating placement schedules, supporting preceptors, and promoting employment opportunities within the home.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a health-related field; or Post-secondary diploma or degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience in project coordination, program coordination, or project management.
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with organizational partners.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of long-term care legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check obtained within the past six (6) months, as required by legislation.
  • Proof of a negative two-step TB test and a current negative one-step TB test completed within the past two (2) months, as required by legislation.

  • Experience in a healthcare or long-term care environment is considered an asset.
  • Adult Education Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Clinical instructor experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with scheduling software is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage student placements within the home.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with colleges, universities, and other educational institutions.
  • Coordinate placement schedules and student assignments in consultation with the Director of Care.
  • Ensure student placements comply with applicable legislation, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Assist Human Resources with collecting and processing required student documentation.
  • Coordinate and facilitate student onboarding activities.
  • Plan and deliver orientation sessions, including facility tours and introductions to residents and team members.
  • Ensure students are familiar with organizational policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Promote and recruit team members to participate as preceptors.
  • Match students with appropriate preceptors based on placement requirements.
  • Provide guidance, resources, and ongoing support to preceptors throughout the placement experience.
  • Foster positive learning environments that support student success.
  • Coordinate evaluation activities for the student placement program.
  • Collect and review feedback from students, preceptors, and educational partners.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes and improve program sustainability and effectiveness.
  • Develop recommendations to strengthen the student placement experience.
  • Serve as the primary contact between the home and educational institutions.
  • Promote available employment opportunities to students.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts to encourage students to pursue employment within the home following placement completion.
  • Maintain positive relationships with educational partners and internal stakeholders.
