About The Position

The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the full-time, 9-month position of Student Persistence & Outreach Coordinator. This position is located on our Bangor campus with the eventual possibility of some remote work. The Student Persistence & Outreach Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing student persistence, success, and completion at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA). This position provides proactive, holistic, and student-centered support to students experiencing academic, financial, personal, or wellness-related challenges that may impede their success. Through early intervention, resource coordination, and individualized support, the Coordinator works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to identify barriers to success and degree completion. The position serves as a key member of the institution's student success network and CARE Team, utilizing data-informed practices to improve student outcomes, promote engagement, and increase retention and graduation rates. The Coordinator manages student intervention systems, tracks outcomes, identifies trends, develops targeted persistence initiatives, and serves as a liaison among academic and student support departments to ensure students receive timely and effective assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with students in a higher education setting, ideally in student affairs, advising, or facilitating academic success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and persistence.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Experience managing confidential information and sensitive student situations.
  • Proficiency with student information systems, case management software, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree
  • Experience with student success technologies such as EdSights, Navigate, Starfish, EAB, Maxient, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with students experiencing academic, financial, mental health, or basic needs challenges.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed, strengths-based, and equity-minded approaches to student support.
  • Experience utilizing data to inform interventions and program assessment.
  • Knowledge of higher education retention theories and best practices.
  • Teaching experience
