About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Director, this position supports the mission and goals of New Student Orientation and Family Programs. The role involves professionally serving the University community by working with diverse student and family populations to welcome guests and provide a seamless transition to CSUSB. Responsibilities include actively participating in orientation programs, training, and activities, learning and sharing accurate information about CSUSB programs, services, departments, and resources, and referring questions to the appropriate campus office as needed. The position requires following program procedures, schedules, assignments, communication guidelines, and dress requirements, while being prepared, positive, flexible, and willing to assist with changing program needs. Any violation of university or orientation policies must be reported to supervisors immediately.

Admission or registration as a CSU student
Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
Eligible to work in the United States
Social Security Card
Must be a student returning to CSUSB in Fall 2027
Uphold all aspects of CSUSB’s Student Conduct Code and be free of disciplinary sanctions
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required
Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program
CSUSB hires only individuals lawfully authorized to work in the United States
Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire

Responsibilities

Attend and actively participate in all assigned orientation sessions, transition programs, training activities, team meetings, and the team retreat.
Welcome students, parents, and family members; provide clear directions; answer routine questions; and connect participants with the appropriate campus office when additional assistance is needed.
Facilitate small-group discussions, campus tours, icebreakers, presentations, and activities for first-year and transfer students and their families.
Explain University programs, services, policies, academic expectations, registration processes, student involvement opportunities, and campus traditions using approved program information.
Support an inclusive environment for participants from varied backgrounds and respond professionally to individual needs and concerns.
Monitor assigned groups and activity areas, promptly communicate safety or participant concerns to professional staff, and follow emergency and incident-reporting procedures.
Complete spring-semester training, summer bootcamp, and other required preparation before independently performing assigned duties.
Learn and accurately apply information about CSUSB resources, offices, policies, student support services, and referral procedures.
Practice and demonstrate public speaking, group facilitation, customer service, conflict management, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Participate in coaching, observation, feedback, assessment, and performance-improvement activities.
Maintain required academic eligibility and promptly notify the supervisor of changes that may affect employment eligibility or availability.
Participate in approved calling campaigns, tabling, recruitment, and outreach activities for newly admitted students and future Orientation Leader candidates.
Use approved scripts, email language, and talking points to provide consistent and accurate information.
Represent the University professionally in person, by telephone, by email, and through approved virtual platforms.
Assist with check-in, wayfinding, participant follow-up, and distribution of program materials.
Prepare, organize, transport, distribute, inventory, and return orientation materials, supplies, signage, equipment, and participant resources.
Assist with room preparation, event set-up and tear-down, registration, attendance tracking, evaluations, and other program logistics.
Complete assigned records, timekeeping, forms, and program documentation accurately and by established deadlines.
Protect student and participant information and follow University requirements for records, privacy, technology, and access to systems.
Support the mission and goals of New Student Orientation and Family Programs and model professional conduct as a student employee and University representative.
Follow work schedules, dress standards, communication protocols, attendance requirements, and instructions from professional staff and designated student leads.
Work cooperatively with Orientation team members, faculty, staff, campus partners, and student organizations.
Report policy violations, safety concerns, and circumstances that may affect program operations to a supervisor promptly.
Perform other duties appropriate to the Student Assistant classification and the operational needs of orientation and transition programs.
