About The Position

Select Specialty Hospital Richmond is a critical illness recovery hospital providing inpatient post-ICU services to chronically critically ill patients who need extended healing and recovery. The Student Nurse Tech role provides diverse, hands-on experience intended to support nursing education and NCLEX preparation. The position requires current enrollment in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program and proof of completing the first year or fundamentals of nursing, or equivalent. This is a per diem night-shift position in Richmond, Virginia, paying $25 per hour. An extensive orientation program is provided, and strong performance may lead to potential full-time opportunities. Per diem employees may qualify for 401(k) after reaching 1,000 hours within their first anniversary or a subsequent calendar year.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program.
• Proof of completion of the first year or fundamentals of nursing, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, follow written and verbal instructions, and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other hospital associates.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patients’ vital signs, height, weight, and demographic data.
• Assist patients with personal and daily care, including bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, and hair care.
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger-stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care, and emptying drainage receptacles and tubes.
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by an RN; do not remove IVs located in the antecubital fossa or higher.
• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who cannot feed themselves, and document oral intake.
• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment, and participate in the mobility program.
• Transport patients to designated areas, including to and from treatment centers.
