About The Position

The Sanford nursing intern participates in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence in clinical skills and facilitate a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation. The internship helps students find a nursing practice area that best fits their career goals, talents, and interests. Interns are mentored by a licensed professional in their specialty to strengthen their clinical skill sets.

The intern cares for patients throughout preventive care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move between care settings. The role provides experience communicating with and supporting patients and working a real schedule as a future licensed professional. The intern performs direct and indirect patient-care tasks and supports department activities, using appropriate population-specific protocols and policies for the physical and psychological needs of patients of all ages. The intern follows state-specific regulations and the applicable scope and standards of practice, and embodies values compatible with Sanford Health.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program leading to an associate or bachelor's degree.
• Have participated in an academic clinical experience.
• Be enrolled in a board of licensed clinical practice-approved internship course; this requirement does not apply to internships held in South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients across preventive care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
