About The Position

The Winter 2026 Student Nurse Externship at Memorial Hospital Belleville Shiloh provides learning opportunities to enhance clinical competence through the development of priority setting, clinical decision-making, delegation, and time management skills. It aims to deepen the understanding of the multidimensional roles of the registered professional nurse, bridging the education-practice gap. The program offers exposure to an exceptional practice environment in a Magnet-designated hospital, with educational opportunities provided by clinical educators, clinical nurse specialists, and subject matter experts. It also provides networking, mentorship, and potential job opportunities upon graduation. Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services, critical and emergency care, including specialized pediatric emergency care. It provides a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services, heart and vascular care, and is accredited as a Chest Pain Center with PCI, an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital, and a Lung Cancer Screening Center. Memorial Hospital Shiloh is a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital recognized with Magnet status, providing emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services, and critical care. The Float Pool is a team of versatile staff supporting various hospital areas.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
  • Graduation date of Spring 2027; Summer 2027; and Fall 2027
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8
  • Valid CPR/BLS Certification throughout program participation dates
  • Completion of application packet within deadline requirements (including a Statement of Purpose and Resume)
  • Enrolled-accredited RN program-Nursing
  • No Experience
  • No Experience

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes nursing process to plan, direct and provide safe nursing care working under the supervision of assigned mentor.
  • Develops a collaborative plan of care based on patient assessment.
  • Interprets data and implements appropriate interventions along side a nurse preceptor.
  • Follows specific standards of care and policies relative to area assigned.
  • Identifies patient and family education needs and works with mentor to coordinate appropriate educational resources.
  • Participates in educational activities related to extern program including unit specific educational information.
  • Performs Other Responsibilities as Assigned
