About The Position

Humber River Health is seeking Student Nurse Externs to join their medicine and surgical programs. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program of studies.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Must be a team player (works well with others).
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with inter-professional healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the use of technology.
  • Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring from a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Mandatory compliance with HRH training: Privacy & Confidentiality requirements, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, hand hygiene modules.
  • Good work attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal support to HRH patients as an unregulated healthcare worker.
  • Provide basic care (activities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, feeding, etc.) for up to 10 patients each.
  • Work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Document activities of daily living (ADLs), such as intake and output.
  • Communicate relevant information for patients for whom care has been provided.
  • Immediately report any clinical concerns to their direct supervisor.
