About The Position
Reporting to the Practice Coordinator, Intensive Care Unit, the Student Nurse Extern is responsible for delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process. The extern performs clinical functions within the scope of practice of a registered nurse only when directly supervised by the registered nurse preceptor, and only for skills validated by the program’s nursing faculty and documented in the Nursing Skills Checklist. When not working under the hours for the work study program, the extern may function as non-licensed assistive personnel.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
- Current enrollment and good standing in an accredited Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program.
- Successful completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing course, including evaluation and validation of technical skills and knowledge documented in the Nursing Student Skills Checklist.
- Current enrollment in a Work Study course in accordance with the incumbent’s college or university requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Enrollment and good standing in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
