Student Nurse Extern
About The Position
We are seeking a Student Nurse Extern who is looking to gain real-world experience while pursuing their nursing degree. The Student Nurse Extern functions as an adjunct to the patient care team, performing duties at a level that corresponds to successfully completed and passed clinical coursework from a local college. Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, with expanded skill capabilities. This is a per diem position, meaning it is on an as-needed basis, but the schedule will accommodate clinicals and school commitments.
Requirements
- Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
- Must be in good and academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) and maintain current.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Responsibilities
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, toileting, and ambulating patients.
- Measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
- Support nurses during procedures by preparing supplies, positioning patients, or providing comfort care.
- Interact with patients and families to provide reassurance and relay information to the care team.
- Observe and learn clinical skills, nursing judgment, and hospital workflows under the guidance of a preceptor.
