Student Nurse Extern
About The Position
We are seeking a Student Nurse Extern who is looking to gain real-world experience while pursuing their nursing degree. The Student Nurse Extern functions as an adjunct to the patient care team, performing duties based on successfully completed and passed clinical sections of their nursing program. Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, with opportunities to expand their skill set. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning as needed (PD/PRN), and the schedule can be arranged to accommodate clinicals and school commitments. All newly hired externs will initially function as nursing assistants, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. Once cleared by the Supervisor, students may advance to their appropriate skill level.
Requirements
- Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program
- Must be in good and academic standing
- Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) and maintain current

- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Responsibilities
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, toileting, and ambulating patients
- Measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation
- Support nurses during procedures by preparing supplies, positioning patients, or providing comfort care
- Interact with patients and families to provide reassurance and relay information to the care team
- Observe and learn clinical skills, nursing judgment, and hospital workflows under the guidance of a preceptor
