About The Position

Wilbur Wright College Student Mentor positions encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students can use their wages towards educational and living expenses.

Requirements

Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States
Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago
Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre-credit or credit classes
Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate
Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students)
Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions
Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago
High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
Must be a City Colleges of Chicago Student.
Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago.
Excellent oral communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Commits to satisfying internal and external customers.
Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as City Colleges of Chicago representative.
Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and demonstrably self-motivated.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Student Mentor advises, guides, and serves as a role model for other students as they transition to college life.
Explains CCC system to interested students; helps students become aware of College resources; advises and refers students to appropriate College resources.
Provides information on study techniques, organizational skills and learning aides to support the student’s transition to college life.
Meets with assigned mentee(s) to advise twice per month.
Assists with setting goals and works toward accomplishing each.
Advocates for mentee as necessary.
Attends mentor training sessions as required.
Records observations and submits reports to assigned supervisor as required.
Help provide accurate information and decrease misinformation about Counseling Services.
Provide outreach programming on mental health topics to the campus community.
Research and create resources and/or social media content to share relevant mental health and wellness information with the campus community.
Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.
