About The Position

The Student Liaison serves as a support and resource for the students and their progress. The Student Liaison gathers information on students regarding attendance, discipline referrals and other referrals for early intervention; manages referrals for support groups and/or other related interventions, works with parents/guardians and counselors to provide appropriate intervention to promote success in school, career, and life.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of experience in social work or related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Skill in case management and knowledge of campus agencies
  • Skill in working in a liaison capacity with campus staff
  • Skill in the assessment and referral of students in need of social services.
  • Ability to implement de-escalation practices and methods.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and preparing summary reports.
  • Skill in spreadsheet management and student information system
  • Ability to type and enter data with speed and accuracy at a rate to perform functions effectively.
  • Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Skill in writing professional reports and correspondence from brief instructions.
  • Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Fluency in language of the target population to be served is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts intake interviews with students referred by school staff, parents, or reports.
  • Contacts students and parents to determine needs and provide appropriate resources.
  • Uses prescribed forms to document all pertinent information.
  • Runs and analyzes reports to identify students with attendance, discipline, referral or other issues that will interfere with student success.
  • Based on referrals, report analysis, intake interviews etc., works with appropriate school and District support and intervention staff to determine intervention methods.
  • Sets up appointments between identified student and a counselor or social worker to ensure early and effective interventions.
  • Uses case management skills to ensure students are receiving early interventions.
  • Provide follow up and regular monitoring of students who are referred for intervention.
  • Conducts screening interviews, using prescribed form, for those students referred to support groups.
  • Collects referrals from staff, students, or parents for support groups held on campus and share the information with the support group coordinator(s).
  • Maintains records of students who have been identified as a no show or dropout; attempts to re-engage students to continue their educational career.
  • Notifies parent or guardian(s) via phone calls, letters, or email; document all attempted contact in prescribed contact logs.
  • Conducts exit interviews to gather information on students who have stopped attending school; regularly compile and share this information with the counseling department.
  • Maintains and updates confidential student files including attendance, discipline, teacher concerns and any other pertinent information.
  • Utilize student liaison database to document interventions.
  • Collects statistics and data for dropout prevention reports and/or district-level reports.
  • Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.
