About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Student Learning Centre & Libraries, the Student Learning Centre Representative offers excellent front-line customer service, strong communication, and solid problem-solving skills to assist students, Peer Tutors, Coaches, College faculty & staff, and the general public. This position is funded through the College Student Employment Program (CSEP) and requires students to be registered in a full-time program, be a domestic fee-paying student, and demonstrate financial need. The role involves staffing the in-person SLC Kiosk, providing directional inquiries, assisting students with meeting room bookings, and delivering information in an approachable manner. The representative will also monitor and respond to various inquiries and contribute to improving SLC processes.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills (other languages are an asset)
  • Previous front-line, customer/client service work experience
  • Sensitivity to diverse student population
  • Ability to demonstrate sense of initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Must be reliable, dedicated, responsible, and professional
  • Ability to use various software platforms, Microsoft Office, Excel, Internet research, etc
  • Firm understanding of Student Learning Centre & Algonquin College and its services
  • Applicants must be eligible for CSEP
  • You must be currently enrolled in a full-time program
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person/Convention Refugee within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) prior to the application deadline date
  • You must demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding

Responsibilities

  • Staffs the in-person SLC Kiosk on DARE 2nd floor, providing a wide range of directional inquiries
  • Greets & assists students/clients at the SLC Kiosk
  • Provides information to peer tutors, coaches and other stakeholders
  • Assists students with the DARE District meeting room booking system
  • Delivers information in an approachable, trustworthy, and welcoming style
  • Monitors and responds to email, phone and in-person inquires
  • Regularly reads internal communications to keep up to date on position-related information
  • Provides feedback, ideas or initiatives to make SLC processes and procedures more efficient and user-friendly
