About The Position

The Student Lab Research Assistant works in a laboratory to carry out assigned experiments, maintain cell line cultures, support laboratory safety and upkeep, record experimental data, assist with data analysis, and report research accomplishments to a professor for research guidance. The role involves preparing reagents and solutions, sterilizing laboratory supplies, and cleaning glassware and equipment. Work may be up to 30 hours per week in the laboratories.

Requirements

• Sophomore standing.
• Completion of BIO125 and BIO324L courses.
• Knowledge of cell culture, tumorigenesis, and the principles of targeted drug design.
• Excellent cell culturing skills.
• Working knowledge of tissue cell transfection.
• Working knowledge of the in vitro CCK-8 cell viability assay.
• Working knowledge of SDS-PAGE and Western blotting.
• Proficiency with Excel and general computer skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with various laboratory equipment.
• Ability to work in a team, plan and organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage time.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective and productive relationships.
• Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Execute assigned experiments according to provided protocols.
• Maintain different cell line cultures.
• Prepare reagents and solutions needed for assigned experiments.
• Autoclave tubes, pipet tips, and other materials needed for assigned experiments.
• Clean glassware and equipment used in experiments.
• Maintain accurate records of experimental data.
• Follow established laboratory safety rules and regulations.
• Assist with data analysis.
• Report research accomplishments to the professor and seek research guidance.
• Maintain laboratory inventory and upkeep.
