About The Position

This role is for a Student in Investment Operations within Capital Markets Finance, for a 4-month term starting in Fall 2026. The position is responsible for public market securities and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of book of record data related to life cycle events. The student will perform daily verifications, analyze and resolve discrepancies, and assist in identifying and implementing workflow improvements, including automation. Responsibilities also include updating and developing procedure documentation, preparing reports, and assisting with special projects. The role requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of OMERS policies and a strong understanding of investment products and customer needs to respond to inquiries. Fostering effective working relationships with internal teams, OMERS investment divisions, and external counterparties is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate Business Administration/Commerce
  • Demonstrated passion and capability in Investment Operations.
  • Exposure to public markets, cash and collateral administration, investment accounting, and audit control practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  • Needs to be flexible.
  • Detail oriented and demonstrate aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis and problem solving.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuit or completion of relevant industry courses will be an asset.
  • Investment accounting systems experience will be an asset (eg. Calypso, Charles River Development (CRD) and Bloomberg).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for public market securities and ensuring book of record data related to life cycle events is complete, accurate and timely.
  • Perform daily verifications between internal and external data for positions, transactions, income and cash.
  • Analyze, explain and resolve all discrepancies on a timely basis.
  • Assist in identifying and assisting in implementing workflow improvements including automation of current processes.
  • Update existing procedures documentation to areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in developing new documentation as required.
  • Prepare reports on public market security information as requested.
  • Assist with special projects as requested.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of OMERS policies regarding investment authority, signing authority, and third-party agreements and apply to daily activities to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain strong understanding of investment products and customer needs in order to respond quickly and accurately to questions and issues that arise.
  • Foster effective working relationships inclusive of the other teams within CMF, OMERS investment divisions, and external counterparties, prime brokers, custodians as appropriate.
