About The Position

This position reports to the food services supervisor or designee. The intern will assist cooks and cook helpers in the preparation of student meals in compliance with government and management directives. This role involves performing clean-up and sanitation duties, providing adequate supplies of food and ingredients, assisting with food preparation, portioning and serving meals, washing dishes, sanitizing eating areas, cleaning kitchen counters, sweeping or mopping floors, cleaning the dining room, storing deliveries properly, maintaining refrigerators and freezers, and rotating stock to ensure freshness and safety.

Requirements

• Applicant must be a current Job Corps student.
• Must be a completer and ready for work-based learning.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Qualified students will, at a minimum, have their student card.

Nice To Haves

• Must be a current Job Corps Center Student currently enrolled in the Culinary Arts program, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform clean-up and sanitation duties in the food preparation, storage and dish room areas to ensure adequate health standards at all times.
• Provide adequate supply of food and transfer merchandise ingredients to cooking area as instructed by the cook or designee.
• Assist in washing, peeling, chopping, and preparing ingredients.
• Portion out food, set up serving lines, and serve meals to fellow students according to proper nutritional guidelines.
• Wash dishes, sanitize eating areas, clean kitchen counters, sweep or mop floors and cleaning dining room.
• Help store deliveries properly, maintain refrigerators and freezers, and rotate stock to ensure freshness and safety.
