Entergy’s Project Delivery Engineering Department is responsible for the planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and operating over 16,000 miles of transmission lines and over 2,700 substations across the four-state territory. This internship involves working in a team environment to assist engineers in day-to-day activities. The role includes performing design based on project scoping and site visits, utilizing CAD software to create construction drawings, preparing relay operational one-line drawings, validating estimating prices and equipment units, managing projects in construction, completing as-built documentation, and participating in weekly planning coordination calls. Interns will also work on special projects to improve grid reliability, respond to equipment failures, support lab testing and operations, and assist with business analytic processes through data mining and reporting. A wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in transmission-related areas such as planning, economic analysis, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations will be undertaken. The position also involves supporting project scoping activities for substation projects, reviewing existing relay settings, and coordinating with design and construction organizations to develop project scope and estimate sheets. Support for project schedules and processes using activity tracking applications like Primavera, and modeling power systems using APA (previously known as PSS CAPE) are key responsibilities. Maintaining a master model for relay fault analysis, supporting wide area coordination, and occasionally using tools such as ETAP, EMTP, and Hypersim are also part of the role. Developing relay settings for substation protective relays, including performing fault studies and developing settings for transmission protection equipment related to capital projects and asset maintenance projects, is crucial. The intern will work with field groups, distribution engineers, and plant engineers to ensure coordination of downstream distribution devices for the system. Support for activities pertaining to SERC/NERC standards compliance and other utility relations, with a focus on PRC and CIP standards, is required. Establishing and improving the relay testing laboratory, developing and supporting relay test plans for planned projects, and supporting the development of configurations for non-RTU assets such as DFR and PQ meters are also included. Participation in substation visits and managing documentation via Documentum (WebTop and IPS-TRAMS) for transmission system protection and other records according to company and departmental policies are essential. Support for protection standard development and implementation, investigating the impact of relay firmware and software changes to Entergy system applications, and developing and updating templates as appropriate are also expected. The role involves developing departmental guidelines/tools, providing training as needed, and accessing new technologies. Leading better application development geared toward fault studies and relay settings, researching and implementing smartgrid in the Entergy system, and participating in Entergy continuous improvement projects are also key aspects of this internship.
