About The Position

Student Indigenous Relations Coordinator Our internships and Co-ops are designed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned Supervisor and Technical Mentor. We’ll help you discover your strengths and development areas in a challenging, fun, and supportive work environment. We are seeking a student to join us for a 4, 8 or 12 month co-op position starting in September 2026. This position will be based out of Orillia, Ontario.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a University, College, or Trade Program.
  • Will complete at least one more semester of education following your internship.
  • Proficiency in data entry with experience in maintaining records, databases, or information systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for report generation, data analysis, and presentation preparation.
  • Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently.
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships.

  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude.
  • Residency, or a valid work permit which would allow you to work for Bird Construction or one of our wholly owned subsidiaries.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in Indigenous community engagement, advocacy, or related work is an asset.
  • Experience in event planning or coordination of cultural activities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between our organization and Indigenous communities, participating in community engagement activities, and facilitating open communication channels.
  • Assist in organizing and participating in events, workshops, and cultural activities that promote understanding, appreciation, and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and history.
  • Research Indigenous policies and best practices to support the development and implementation of strategies for effective engagement and relationship-building.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate Indigenous perspectives, values, and knowledge into organizational initiatives, projects, and policies.
  • Support the development and delivery of educational materials, training sessions, and resources to enhance awareness and sensitivity among staff regarding Indigenous perspectives and issues.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to foster trust, collaboration, and mutual understanding.
