About The Position

The Peer Health Educator (PHE) Student Assistant will serve as a champion for health and wellness on campus. The primary role of this position is to educate and provide accurate health-related information for students. The PHE will assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs. Programs may cover topics such as reproductive health, nutrition and physical fitness, mental health and stress management, and alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The PHE will serve as a liaison between the Student Health Center and the campus community. The PHE will be a health-conscious individual modeling a health lifestyle and providing a positive role model image for other students.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student.
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Responsibilities

  • Explore and collect health information unique to CSUSB.
  • Assist with health promotion programs, such as campus events, presentations, and workshops. Health Promotion staff will aid in the development of PHE-led programs.
  • Promote the Student Health Center services and other relevant campus resources through outreach.
  • Create accurate and appropriate literature and information pamphlets.
  • Market flyers and posters for health education programs under staff guidance.
  • Attend training and meetings. Advance notice will be provided.
  • Assist with clerical functions for the Student Health Center and the Health Promotion Department (i.e., file paperwork, maintain an organized working environment, make deliveries around campus, etc.).
  • Peer Health Educators will perform other duties assigned by the Health Promotion.
