About The Position

This position will help student employees demonstrate and cultivate the career readiness competencies in accordance with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). The Graduate Assistant will support the department/organization in various administrative and operational tasks. The student will develop assessment, evaluation, and implementation skills related to student employment supervision and leadership. The student will gain expertise in University policies/procedures. The student will demonstrate the ability to work successfully in a team. The student will demonstrate applied competencies such as decision-making, time management, planning, budgeting, program implementation and program management. The student will exercise a variety of communication skills including formal and informal verbal communication and informal and professional writing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate program at Tulane University
  • Past involvement in student employment as an undergraduate student (i.e. events services, information desk, office assistant, etc.)
  • Organizational ability, punctuality, and self-motivation
  • Experience with When To Work scheduling module
  • Experience presenting and/or facilitating with groups of varying sizes
  • Ability to act as a positive role model
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Active enrollment as a graduate student at Tulane University

Responsibilities

  • Manage When To Work software for scheduling work shifts for 3 LBC teams: Events Services, Information Desk and Building Managers.
  • Meet on a weekly basis with supervisor advising on LBC student employment policies and procedures, as well as leadership practices
  • Assist with scheduling staff meetings and individual meetings for student staff
  • Send weekly newsletter of important events and information to student staff
  • Assist in coordinating social and recognition events for student employees
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Events with interviewing and training new student employees
  • Assist in review and approval process for meeting room and events through Event Management System, EMS

Benefits

  • 10 monthly stipends at $1,300 each to be paid August – May (total $13,000)
