About The Position

The Ithaca College Wellness Clinic is a membership-based fitness center located in the Center for Health Sciences. The mission of the Wellness Clinic is to provide quality health and fitness services to the Ithaca College community (IC faculty, staff, retirees, graduate students, and spouse/partners), while enhancing the practical experiences of Exercise and Sport Science students through guided clinical training. The Wellness Clinic academic year hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6am-7pm. The Wellness Clinic is hiring Fitness Specialists for the spring semester and summer. This position requires specialized knowledge, skills, relevant experience, and/or certification.

Requirements

  • Matriculated student at Ithaca College.
  • Availability to work during weekday operational hours (6 am – 7 pm), preferably for multiple semesters and/or summer sessions.
  • Personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization.
  • Knowledge of health-related fitness testing, exercise techniques, and programming.
  • Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with people of diverse ages, cultures, and communication styles.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, busy environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and work ethic.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Commitment to client confidentiality.
  • Required Certifications/Trainings upon hiring: Adult CPR/AED, HIPAA, Blood Borne Pathogen, and Harassment Prevention Certification/Training.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate students with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science (or related field) with relevant experience or certification are exempt from the Personal Training certification requirement.
  • Undergraduate students who have taken: Practicum in Health-Related Assessment, Resistance Exercise & Olympic Weightlifting, Strength & Conditioning Foundations, and Personal Training are exempt from the Personal Training certification requirement.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  • Preference will be given to students in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training (ESAT) or in the School of HSHP.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellence in professionalism, building client rapport, and educating clients in health, fitness, and wellness.
  • Enforce and follow policies and procedures of the Wellness Clinic.
  • Ensure client safety with spotting, appropriate exercise technique, cuing, and emergency care.
  • Fitness floor supervision and guided fitness training during client workouts to level of education and training (i.e., assist clients in execution of their exercise prescription or other exercises, monitor client progress and goal attainment).
  • Personal training, including: Screening clients for medical/health risks. Conducting exercise orientations, fitness evaluations, and graded exercise tests. Developing and delivering exercise programs. Monitoring client progress and goal attainment.
  • Teach group exercise if interested.
  • Facility and equipment maintenance and launder towels.
  • Maintain client, facility, and equipment records.

Benefits
