About The Position

Brock University is seeking two Student Financial Services Officers to join their team. Reporting to the Manager, Student Financial Services and A/R, the incumbent will advise current and prospective students on all aspects of their financial portfolio at Brock University. This role requires an in-depth understanding of Registration, Student Accounts, Tuition and Fee Assessment, and Student Awards and Financial Aid to provide comprehensive support. The SFSO contributes to student recruitment and retention through financial planning and guidance. The position involves meeting with students, performing financial analytics, attending recruitment events, making decisions on emergency funding, processing loan applications, evaluating student accounts for refunds, recording student interaction notes, processing and analyzing customer invoicing, and performing collections functions.

Requirements

  • A college diploma or undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Experience in higher education, with experience in Registration, Financial Aid, and Student Accounts
  • Excellent financial acumen, including knowledge of budget and basic accounting
  • Strong Excel skills (i.e., ability to create pivot tables VLOOKUP, filter, etc.)
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Office, BrockDB, Workday and OSAP Software
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) requirements and related University confidentiality and release of student information practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and verbal communication skills, to assist with understanding student needs and providing relevant financial counselling
  • Ability to de-escalate tensions in high-stress situations and provide guidance in a calm and professional manner
  • Ability to interpret financial accounts and effectively provide explanations to clients and colleagues
  • Accurate data entry and the ability to maintain detailed records
  • Ability to understand and remain current with extensive, complex, frequently updated policies and processes from OSAP, NSLSC, MCURES and Brock

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students and related parties through personal appointments, in person or online through other electronic and non-electronic forms of communication (ie. phone, email, etc.) to answer questions and provide guidance
  • Perform analytics and make recommendations on university financial programs that have a valuable impact to current and prospective students while facilitating University strategy
  • Attend Open House and various University functions outside of regular business hours to support student recruitment and retention
  • Make decisions with respect to emergency funding advances for students in dire financial need
  • Process loan application forms, including data entry, editing student data, reviewing, and adjusting amounts awarded
  • Evaluate student accounts to determine if or how much credit may be awarded to the student, in accordance with all policies and regulations, and process refunds to the student or NSLSC
  • Record detailed permanent notes on the student record to reflect relevant information regarding student interactions and/or status of account
  • Process, monitor, follow up and analyze customer invoicing
  • Perform collections functions for student and customer receivables, including tracking, analyzing, following up and negotiating settlements in accordance with approved University policy and procedures
