Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations or a registered nurse and according to established protocol or direction of a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner, the Medical Assistant (MA) performs a variety of skilled Medical Assistant duties and gives direct nursing care to students in the Student Health Center. Performs related work as required. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts. Requirements

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid CPR/AED certification required
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited and approved medical assistant training program through the Department of Education or Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education within the Department of Consumer Affairs required
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Works diplomatically and effectively with colleagues, staff, clinicians, and students while fostering cooperative, respectful working relationships
  • Reliable, punctual, consistently present, and able to work productively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Complies fully with Student Health Services policies, HIPAA privacy and security requirements, EMR access protocols, and practices within the Medical Assistant scope as guided by the Medical Board of California
  • Quick to learn clinic procedures
  • Follow detailed oral and written instructions
  • Understand basic medical terminology
  • Competently handle patient‑care equipment
  • Accurately observe and record information
  • Solid computer skills to support health information technology in a Student Health Center environment
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence"
  • Reside in the State of California

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience performing the duties of a medical assistant in an outpatient clinic preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administering medications/immunizations and performing routine care and/or medical assistant duties which require training and skill
  • Assist practitioners in the delivery of health care services such as examinations, clinical procedures, and medical treatments
  • Ensure health care patient care areas are fully stocked, organized and clean
