About The Position

The Student Financial Management Counselor (SFMC) serves in the Student Financial Management Center at the Atlanta campus. The primary responsibility is to provide financial counseling to students, parents, and the university community regarding the financial aid process, eligibility requirements, and student account policies. This is achieved through conducting financial management workshops, seminars, and other outreach activities. The role also involves providing excellent customer service in a high-volume environment, handling both in-person visits and phone inquiries.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Previous experience at an institution of higher education, preferably in Financial Aid.

Responsibilities

Conducts community outreach efforts including financial management workshops and orientation presentations.
Conducts calling campaigns to students, parents, other University staff, and community organizations.
Conduct financial literacy counseling for assigned student populations, including Satisfactory Academic Progress, State and Federal funding sources, and student finance topics like budgeting and credit.
Serves as a tier 2 resource for complex financial aid and student account issues via phone and in-person, ensuring compliance with federal, state, Board of Regents, and institutional regulations.
Investigates and provides solutions for financial aid and student account customer issues.
Reviews and analyzes daily exception reports to resolve issues.
Assists in awarding financial aid according to program regulations (e.g., HOPE, federal direct loans).
Reviews the accuracy of financial aid applications and verifies application information with supporting documentation.
Evaluates financial circumstances to determine appropriate student account payment options.
Counsels students on a variety of enrollment management issues from orientation through post-enrollment, including admissions, registration, and academic records.
