About The Position

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team and performs duties at the level successfully completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN, the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, with skills expanded as appropriate. All newly hired externs initially function as nursing assistants, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. After clearance by the Supervisor, they may move to their appropriate skill level.

Requirements

• Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
• Be in good academic standing.
• Hold a current Basic Life Support Certification.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nursing Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN and in accordance with established protocols.
• Perform duties at the clinical skill level successfully completed and passed in the nursing program.
