About The Position

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team and performs at the level successfully completed and passed in the clinical section of a local college program. Under the general supervision of an RN, the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, with permitted skills expanded as appropriate. All newly hired externs initially function as nursing assistants, regardless of their clinical level in the nursing program. After being cleared by the Supervisor, an extern may move to their appropriate skill level.

Requirements

• Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
• Be in good academic standing.
• Hold current Basic Life Support certification.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN, in accordance with established protocols.
