About The Position

This is a summer student position for individuals enrolled in a post-secondary institution. As an entry-level role, it requires no prior knowledge of scrap metals and recycling, but demands a strong work ethic and the ability to learn. The student labourer will support daily operations, including scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance, all while adhering to Gerdau's safety standards. Strong communication skills are essential for ensuring safety among colleagues, visitors, and contractors. This is a summer-only position, running from early May 2026 to the end of August 2026, with a typical work week from Monday to Friday.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
Ability to commute/relocate to Toronto, ON reliably.
Legally eligible to immediately work in the country of hire without current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Follow all established Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard.
Assist in daily operations and maintenance.
Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
Perform general housekeeping duties, including sweeping shop areas and removing garbage.
Assist co-workers in general operational duties essential for yard safety, efficiency, and profitability.
Provide problem-solving input and contributions as required.
Provide excellent customer service.
Promote and practice the core values of Gerdau.
