About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical or Industrial Engineer Student at Minnesota Ore Operations. The Internship affords the opportunity to apply educational experiences to real world engineering principals. This position is a temporary full-time position for the summer of 2027 and will be located at Minntac in Mountain Iron, MN.

Requirements

• Candidates must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• Candidates must be a current student and have completed their sophomore year by June 2027 and be in good academic standing.
• Must have at least a 2.75 GPA, will accept 2.5 with experience.
• Be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
• This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Report directly to maintenance managers and work along-side RCM to improve production at Minntac and Keetac.
• Apply engineering principles, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that resolve operational conditions and improve reliability.
• Assist in supervising, directing, and coordinating efforts of experienced technicians, craftsmen, and project planners to repair and maintain mechanical and/or electrical equipment to maximize operating efficiencies.
• Assist in building a yearly to 10-year mine maintenance plan.
• Research and supplier communications regarding mobile equipment upgrades and technological advances.
• Work directly with the fleet manager and assist in daily duties.
• Assist in coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance with a team of mechanical and electrical maintenance staff.
• Use technical knowledge, equipment documentation, safety procedures and maintenance schedules to follow, improve and develop preventative and routine maintenance programs.
• Devise and implement cost saving strategies.
