About The Position

The Biology/Chemistry lab assistant will assist with Biology/Chemistry laboratory prep by cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment. This is a part-time student employee position that works around your class schedule. The position is FWS Eligible and offers a minimum pay rate of $15.00 per hour. The role involves preparing laboratory materials, media for Microbiology Labs, maintaining living specimens and cadavers, and ensuring laboratory equipment and supplies are in order. The position also includes general lab clean-up and preparation of chemical solutions, with an emphasis on safety procedures and proper handling of hazardous materials.

Requirements

Enrolled at JJC for 6 or more credit hours.
GPA of 2.0 or above.
Complete previous coursework in Biology and/or Chemistry
Must be able to work well with others
Must be able to communicate effectively
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

Nice To Haves

English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

Responsibilities

Abide by Safety Procedures & Policies as detailed in the JJC Chemical Hygiene Plan
Prepare laboratory materials for all Biology and Chemistry courses.
Prepare media for Microbiology Labs, including; operating the autoclave & practicing aseptic techniques.
Maintenance of aquariums, plants, lab animals and other living specimens.
Maintenance of cadavers.
Maintenance of laboratory equipment & supplies, including; cleaning, storage & inventories.
Maintenance of classrooms and general lab clean-up.
Prepare chemical solutions. Observe proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
Work 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am to 4:00 pm
Other duties as assigned.
