Hourly Pooled - Student Educational Opportunity (SEO) Tutor
About The Position
The Student Educational Opportunity (SEO) Tutor works with students to develop sustainable study skills, clarify coursework information, and foster a positive attitude toward higher education and constructive learning. SEO/Academic Services provides tutorial support to students in multiple educational grant programs. Tutors meet with 1–5 students per semester to check on class progress, answer relevant questions, and encourage students to make effective use of course materials. The position requires flexible communication by phone, Zoom, email, and in person, as well as additional record-keeping. Tutors are highly encouraged to attend regular SEO tutor trainings and CRLA trainings provided by the STEP tutoring program. Scheduling is flexible, and weekly hours depend on student tutoring requests and the courses the tutor is able to support. This is an on-campus position, and the successful candidate must be available to work on campus.
Requirements
- At least three semesters of postsecondary education.
- A grade of at least B in each class the candidate wishes to tutor.
- Successful completion of a background check before hiring.
- Availability to work and perform essential job functions on campus.
Nice To Haves
- An A in a class the candidate wishes to tutor is preferred.
- A GPA of at least 3.0 is preferred.
- Interest in tutoring a wide range of coursework is especially preferred.
- Experience or interest in common tutoring fields such as biology, health sciences, business/accounting, engineering, environmental sciences, writing, chemistry, language, education, and mathematics.
Responsibilities
- Meet with 1–5 students per semester to check on their progress in class.
- Answer students’ relevant questions and challenge them to use course materials effectively to improve in class.
- Communicate flexibly with students by phone, Zoom, email, and in person.
- Maintain additional documentation for record-keeping purposes.
- Attend regular SEO tutor trainings and CRLA trainings provided by the STEP tutoring program; attendance is highly encouraged.
